Edit DARK DAYS OF WINTER, 1968

WITH the autumn comes the annual turning back of the clocks with the end of British summertime.
The time of year parents hate has returned and your children will face that early morning journey to school in darkness.
These youngsters pictured here had to endure this along with their lollipop man on Glasgow Road, Baillieston.

Also in the darkness of winter mornings many baillieston children have to walk to train stations in garrowhill and easterhouse to get to St Ambrose school in coatbridge. This was an issue I raised with glasgow council a few years ago when my g/son had to make this journey on cold wet winter mornings , but my I was fobbed off with the reason that my g.son was.nt in the area for the school bus, which by the way passed by within 2mins walking time from our home. The case I put forward fell on deaf ears

Shows again how poorly served the area is with buses. My son has to walk to Bannerman hail or shine from Easterhouse Road (2 miles give or take) and this is the catchment area! Also not one bus to the fort, we would have to walk to Hallhill Rd., so much for encouraging the use of public transport we would use it if it was available. John mason has tried to get us more transport links but it is slow in the making.

I think the powers that be are unaware that there are those of us who rely on public transport, . To get to the fort I am £5 each way in a taxi and that's not counting the tip

Would the new bus service starting the 22nd June 2008 be of help to you? The number 39 bus will run every half hour Mon - Sat until 7pm. The route will include Dodside St, Glasgow Rd, Main St Baillieston, Edinburgh Rd, Easterhouse train station, into Fort, then through Cranhill, Alexandra Parade to Buchanan St Bus Station. Cllr Mason has been asking for this for some time and it would seem his persistence has paid off.

Katrina if this bus does appear it would be fantastic at last an alternative to the 213. It's very sad but I can't believe I'm this excited.

Don't get too excited yet...I've heard that it's inaugural trip has been put back until 13th July...Still better late than never!!

Have your say:
